Some Extra Information

1. Structure: “There + is/are” (Simple Present – Showing Existence)

When we use “there + is/are”, we simply want to say that something exists or is present. This structure is used when we are not focusing on any action, but only on the presence of a person, thing, or situation.

In this structure:

  • “there” = dummy subject (just fills the subject position)
  • “is/are” = main verb (be verb)
  • The real focus is on the noun that comes after it

For example:
There is a book on the table.
This means: A book exists on the table.

Here, no action is happening. We are only saying that the book is present.

Where do we use it?
We use “there is/are” when:

  • We introduce something for the first time
  • We describe what is present in a place
  • We talk about facts or situations

Why do we use it?
Because English needs a subject, and when we only want to show existence, we use “there” as a dummy subject to make the sentence natural and complete.

2. Structure: “There + is/are + verb-ing” (Present Continuous – Ongoing Action)

When we use “there + is/are + verb-ing”, we are not just showing existence, but also that an action is happening right now.

For example:
There is a boy playing in the park.
This means:
👉 A boy exists in the park and he is playing right now

So here, two things are happening:

  1. The boy exists (presence)
  2. The boy is doing an action (playing)

Where do we use it?

  • When we want to describe a scene or situation happening now
  • When we want to show both existence + action together

Why do we use it?
Because sometimes just saying existence is not enough. We also want to tell what is happening, so we add verb-ing.

3. Structure: “There + is/are + being + noun” (Rare Continuous Form)

This structure looks like:
👉 There + is/are + being + noun

Example:
There is being a meeting in the hall.

This means:
👉 A meeting is happening right now

But here is the important point:

⚠️ This structure is very rare and not commonly used in daily English.

Instead, native speakers usually say:
✔️ There is a meeting in the hall.
✔️ A meeting is happening in the hall.

Where is it used?

  • Mostly in formal, technical, or advanced English
  • Sometimes in reports or official descriptions

Why is it used?
To show that something (like a meeting, discussion, change) is in progress, but without focusing on a person doing the action.

1. Structure: “There + is/are” (Simple Present – अस्तित्व बताने के लिए)

जब हम “there + is/are” का उपयोग करते हैं, तो हम सिर्फ यह बताते हैं कि कोई चीज़ मौजूद है (exist करती है)। इस structure में हम किसी action (काम) पर ध्यान नहीं देते, बल्कि केवल presence (मौजूदगी) बताते हैं।

इस structure में:

  • “there” = dummy subject (सिर्फ जगह भरने के लिए)
  • “is/are” = main verb (be verb)
  • असली focus noun (वस्तु/व्यक्ति) पर होता है

उदाहरण:
There is a book on the table.

2. Structure: “There + is/are + verb-ing” (Present Continuous – काम चल रहा है)

जब हम “there + is/are + verb-ing” का उपयोग करते हैं, तो हम सिर्फ existence नहीं, बल्कि यह भी बताते हैं कि कोई काम अभी हो रहा है

उदाहरण:
There is a boy playing in the park.

3. Structure: “There + is/are + being + noun” (कम उपयोग होने वाला Continuous Form)

इस structure का रूप है:
👉 There + is/are + being + noun

उदाहरण:
There is being a meeting in the hall.
👉 हॉल में एक मीटिंग हो रही है।

लेकिन ध्यान रखें:

⚠️ यह structure बहुत कम उपयोग होता है और रोज़मर्रा की English में लगभग नहीं बोला जाता।

इसके बजाय लोग कहते हैं:
✔️ There is a meeting in the hall.
✔️ A meeting is happening in the hall.

कहाँ उपयोग होता है?

  • Formal या technical English में
  • Reports या official language में

क्यों उपयोग होता है?
जब हम यह दिखाना चाहते हैं कि कोई स्थिति (जैसे meeting, discussion, change) चल रही है, लेकिन किसी व्यक्ति पर focus नहीं करना चाहते।

Simple Comparison (Very Important for Students)

  • There is a book on the table.
    👉 Only existence (किताब है)
  • There is a boy playing in the park.
    👉 Existence + action (लड़का है और खेल रहा है)
  • There is being a meeting in the hall.
    👉 Ongoing situation (मीटिंग हो रही है) (rare usage)

हिंदी में आसान समझ (Quick Understanding)

  • There is/are → सिर्फ “है / हैं” (मौजूद है)
  • There is/are + verb-ing → “हो रहा है / रहे हैं” (काम चल रहा है)
  • There is/are + being + noun → “हो रहा है” (लेकिन बहुत कम उपयोग होता है)
